When to start using Anti-Ageing Skin Care
26 May 2022
The visible signs of skin ageing are caused by a mix of factors, some of which, such as genetics, we can’t control, but others which we can, such as how we take care of our skin.
As we age, our skin’s ability to renew itself slows and key building blocks such as elastin and collagen become damaged and aren’t produced at the same rate as before. As a result, your skin loses elasticity and fine lines and wrinkles begin to deepen.
In addition, your skin may appear duller. Dark spots and uneven pigmentation are a further sign of ageing, which is why they’re often called ‘age spots’.
The muscles within the face lose elasticity too, causing a loss in volume. As we reach our 40s, fatty tissue from around the eyes and cheeks moves downwards towards the neck and jaw area causing sagging and a change in the shape of the face.

Also, one thing to remember is that, for women, our collagen production is linked directly to our ovaries. When we are at our most fertile our skin is usually at its best. As you near menopause and go through perimenopause you will notice huge changes in your entire system, not just your skin. Hitting menopause has a direct link to your collagen levels and how plump your skin looks.
